Live music, walkabout entertainment and vintage cars filled the streets with hustle and bustle in the first major event in Llanelli for over 18 months, with people eager to reconnect with each other and with their town.
Chair of Ymlaen Llanelli, Lesley Richards, was thrilled with the response: “It’s been so long since we’ve been able to bring people together and show some love for our town centre, and this was the perfect event to start off with. It was fabulous to see people singing and dancing, and just having fun together. The community feeling was incredible.”
Festival-goers were treated to a morning of sunshine as a display of vintage cars and buses kicked off the event at 10am, including a special visit from James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 in Stepney Square.
A Time to Dance began proceedings on the Vaughan Street stage at 12pm, followed by Buddy Holly and the Morriston Big Band. The rain came as Elvis took to the stage, but it didn’t dampen the spirit as people took to the dancefloor regardless - “It’s only skin, and it’s only water,” as compere for the day, Leroy Hutchinson, said to the crowd.
Proving just how much we’d missed live events was Bjorn Belief, who completed the lineup with a roundup of everyone’s favourite ABBA songs to finish up the successful day.
We'll be back with our Llanelli Food and Drink Festival 2021 on Saturday 16th October - we're sure we'll see you there!
